NAB Show to Host Super Session on Next-Gen Filmmaking

The 2011 NAB Show will feature "Digital Rebels: The New Generation of Filmmakers & Storytellers," a Super Session examining the latest innovations in daring film productions and digital techniques. Led by moderator John Loiacono, senior vice president and general manager, of Adobe Systems Incorporated, the session will take place on Tuesday, April 12 at the NAB Show in Las Vegas.

Panelists include Gareth Edwards, director, "Monsters" and "Godzilla;" Tyler Nelson, assistant editor, "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" and "The Social Network;" and Jacob Rosenberg, director, chief technology officer (CTO) and partner, Bandito Brothers. The session will focus on a new generation of filmmakers who defy the massive movie budgets of the past and instead rely on fast, low-budgeted filmmaking to tell a narrative. Panelists will discuss their revolutionary production and distribution practices, as well as new technologies that facilitate digital filmmaking, such as RED and DSLR cameras and software that provides integrated solutions and workflows that make this form of storytelling possible.

As senior vice president and general manager of Adobe’s Digital Media Solutions Business Unit, Loiacono leads the development of Adobe’s media solutions which empower digital artists and storytellers to transform powerful ideas into great content. Prior to joining Adobe, Loiacono served as executive vice president of software at Sun Microsystems with responsibility for software technologies.

An accomplished director, writer and cinematographer, Gareth Edwards has been tapped by Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures to direct the new "Godzilla" movie, tentatively set for release next year. He previously wrote and directed "Monsters," the 2010 independent sci-fi thriller and was a BAFTA-award winning and Emmy-nominated visual effects creator for clients such as The Discovery Channel and the BBC.

Tyler Nelson is currently the assistant editor of "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," and previously served as assistant editor on "The Social Network" and "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button." He started his career as an assistant editor at Angus Wall’s commercial editing house, Rock Paper Scissors, before moving from commercials to feature films.

Jacob Rosenberg has contributed his technical knowledge to a number of feature film projects, including "Superman Returns," "Standard Operating Procedure," the Rolling Stones documentary "Shine a Light," "Avatar," and the acclaimed independent film, "August Evening." His recent directing credits include the short film "December Story" and commercials for Harvey Nichols, Zebra Technologies and Ford.
