Rockstar Games announces a new western videogame

The sequel to Red Dead Revolver for the Playstation 2 and Xbox in 2004 has just been confirmed by Rockstar Games after more than five years of inactivity and is called Red Dead Redemption. Fans of cowboy-style firefights will be able to get their hands on it this fall on both the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. Rockstar’s San Diego branch is in charge of its development, a studio known for its implication with the Midnight Club series but also the original Red Dead Revolver.

In this second effort, the story takes place at the beginning of the 20th century with the first steps of the industrial age. The player is John Marston, a former gangster who then swapped his bad habits and makes sure the law prevails in the Far West. This production uses the Rockstar Advanced Game Engine (RAGE) and features a huge open-ended overworld rich with various interactions.

’’ The team at San Diego have massively exceeded our expectations with the sheer depth of experiences in Red Dead Redemption. We think this game helps to push the limits of what an open-world gaming experience can be ’’, said Sam Houser, co-founder and president of Rockstar Games.
