Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles by Capcom, first screenshots

Japanese magazine Famitsu had a big scoop in its pages for the March 11 2009 edition, host of the Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles announcement. This game is a direct sequel to Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles available on the Wii since 2007. This second entry in the on-rails first-person shooter is also being developed exclusively on Nintendo’s console and is aiming for a Winter 2009 release date.

Based on Resident Evil 2, The Darkside Chronicles story features two of the most well-known characters in this zombie franchise, namely Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield. Players will be experience re-creations of several classic scenes with either a partner governed by artificial intelligence or, even better, a real friend. A new escape command executed with the help of the Wiimote also adds a layer of strategy to the whole on-rails horror.

“We are very excited to be bringing the sequel to Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles to the Wii as it’s the perfect fit for the platform. We are always looking for new ways to give Capcom fans a chance to experience our games. Umbrella Chronicles was a huge success for us, Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles includes a more in-depth co-op experience, and we are excited to bring this exclusive content to the Wii audience”, said Mona Hamilton, vice president of marketing for Capcom Entertainment
